Will the Recreation Centers be open for the fall?

The opening of the Recreation Center (Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation Center and Student Activities and Athletics Center) is dependent on orders from the State of California and the Merced County Department of Public Health. Recreation & Athletics has a plan approved to open and operate the Recreation Centers once Fitness Centers are permitted to open in Merced County.

What is the process to access the Recreation Center in the fall?

Reservations will be required to access the Gallo Recreation Center and SAAC weight room for the fall semester. Reservation blocks of 90 minutes will be available for students to reserve for their workouts.

Information on how to make reservations will be posted at {INSERT LINK}

Why do I have to make a reservation to use the Recreation Center?

Under campus and county COVID-19 guidelines, the capacity of all spaces on campus have been reduced to allow for appropriate physical distancing. In order to mange the reduced capacity in our facilities, we are utilizing a reservation system.

In addition to managing capacity, the reservation blocks will also allow for us to more frequently clean the entire facility between reservation blocks to protect the health of all users.
